What do you get when you cross Deathlike Silence with Vector 2 Games? “One of the most awesome Xbox Live Indie games alive”, according to Mr. Radish. “The Headsman: Deathlike Silence” is based on a music video by gravedigger metal band Deathlike Silence and is aptly named after the song title. We strongly suspect Mr. Radish developed a crush on the band’s lead singer, Maya Liittokivi but that bias aside we find it’s a really cool way to bring a music video to a gaming console.
The Headsman serves the opportunity to satisfy your sick self’s burning desire for revenge on the jerks who sprayed liquid cheese through your locker grates in high school, even if just in an imaginary way. You play the role of the executioner in a “drop the apples in the basket” mechanic where the apples are victim’s heads you’ve chopped off to the rhythm of “The Headsman”. A cartoon human lineup trembles in fear as they approach you single file waiting for your axe’s fall, each strike ideally timed so a head drops in a (preferably) high point value basket passing by below.
Others might scoff at The Headsman because the game is a little thin, but it is tangential learning at its finest. Not only did we memorize some lyrics in a matter of minutes, we also discovered a band that’s to die for (no pun intended). We learned how to keep rhythm as an executioner and coordinate that with dropping heads in the proper basket, all while venting suppressed teenage frustration. “The Headsman” is truly melodic game therapy.
One other great feature: The game is only 80 points, equivalent to $1.00 so hunt it down on Xbox Live Indie Games!
And here's a link to their music video that is featured in the game.
